About "I'm Gonna Dance"

In 2017, I composed some lyrics titled "I'm Gonna Dance" that I shared with a friend in the church choir that I sang with.  She encouraged me write a song to go with the words, but I didn't feel up to the challenge then.

At this time of writing in mid-July of 2020, my Saturday mornings included a half-hour piano lesson via Zoom Meeting since COVID-19 precluded in-person sessions.  But because July 4th came on a Saturday, my lesson was cancelled which led me to choose to swap a few days of regular practice with something different at the piano.

After a day or so of experimentation, the 16 bars of the tune were set down, but with no left hand chords.  Further, the syllables of the words I'd written earlier didn't fit the meter so I reworked the lyrics.

I also launched the Frescobaldi program on my computer that allows for the creation of professionally-engraved, sheet music printed on a local printer.  I'd been using the program for a number of years to customize my piano practice music with my own fingering numbers inserted.  My experience at using the program with dozens of scores gave me a unique opportunity to create my own sheet music for "I'm Gonna Dance."

Lots of discarded paper and a few days later, the words finally fit the meter and basic chords were inserted for the left hand to play.  My music teacher made a suggestion for a chord change and the composition was complete.  She and my choir friend liked the resulting song.

The remaining issue was to choose a share-alike copyright for the song that allowed for its distribution and use.
