Invoicing Via the Web

Problem:

Working at my customer's site, how can I make a professional, typed invoice for the customer and for myself at the same time?

Solution:

Use a custom-made, web-based, input form on the customer's computer (or your own) and get a copy via e-mail as well.

How does my employee use the invoice?
  1. Connect to the Internet on the customer's computer or your own notebook computer.
  2. Using a web browser, type the URL of your company's web-based invoice.
  3. Fill in the fields of the invoice form -- customer information, labor & parts detail, the dollar amounts and the tax rate percentage.
  4. Press the "Compute" button on the form to accurately tally the remaining invoice amounts.
  5. Print the completed invoice on the printer.
  6. Press the "Copy" button on the form to send the completed invoice information to your e-mail account.
What are the invoice requirements?
  1. Your company must have a website containing the customized invoice form.
  2. Your website must have cgi capability so it can execute an automatic Perl script.
  3. The customer must be willing to allow the temporary use of an Internet-connected computer and printer - or - you must have a notebook computer and a printer with the capability to use your own ISP account via the customer's phone line or wireless access.
How can I get invoicing via the web?
  1. Call 203 748-2960 or write David Mawdsley at dm@madmod.com to discuss the details of your company's invoice needs -- so that the company logo and invoice form can be correctly configured.
  2. When the designs have been completed, the custom web based invoice form will need to be uploaded to your company's website where the HTML documents reside.
  3. A customized formmail script written in Perl will need to be configured with the path to your server's sendmail program.
  4. The Perl script will then need to be uploaded to the cgi-bin folder of the company's website.
  5. The invoice is then ready to be used. A short tutorial will get your employees used to the procedures. (user's manual supplied)
What is the cost and how soon can the project be completed?
  1. Assuming that your company has a website, the design costs are negotiable but should come in at about $400.
  2. Expect about three meetings to plan, to look at the design progress and to check out the final design before using the invoice.
  3. Discussion with the company's ISP about the server path to the cgi-bin folder and obtained permissions to upload two pages to the site can be expected.
  4. Anticipate that the whole process will take two weeks or less.
